Faculty Recruitment Start-Up Award 2023: Patrick Ledwidge
Institution: Western Kentucky University
Department: Psychological Sciences
Rank: Assistant Professor
About the Project: We're using mobile EEG and motion sensors to establish the cognitive and neural mechanisms that influence motor control during dynamic sporting maneuvers, and particularly those which contribute to injury-risk knee biomechanics.
Intended Outcomes: My goal is that these findings will translate into a follow-up project examining the recovery of these cognitive and neural mechanisms after sports-related concussion and how they underly risk for subsequent lower-extremity musculoskeletal injury.
How KY INBRE will help accomplish these goals: KY INBRE provided the start-up funds I needed to acquire my mobile EEG system and motion sensor equipment. With their funding support I was able to start data collection on this project in my first semester, which I'm using as preliminary data for upcoming grant submissions.
Outside of the classroom/lab: I'm an avid runner and cyclist and during time off I love to travel across the country for different triathlon and other endurance events. Always with my black labrador, "Cash" (pictured).
